Safe Motherhood Supplies for Madagascar
A $1.0 million UNOPS programme supplying obstetric and maternal-care instruments across Madagascar in 2025–2026 — continuing a partnership that began during the COVID-19 crisis.
Most of the equipment in this programme fits in a clinician's hand: manual vacuum aspirators, obstetric suction cups, stethoscopes. None of it looks like headline technology. All of it decides how safely a woman gives birth in a rural Malagasy clinic.
In 2025, UNOPS — the United Nations Office for Project Services — awarded YessPharma GmbH a $1.0 million contract to supply intrauterine manual suction devices, manual aspirators, stethoscopes and obstetric suction cups across Madagascar, with deliveries running through 2026.
Simple instruments at this scale are their own challenge: thousands of units, every one of which must meet specification, arrive intact, and reach facilities scattered across an island bigger than France. Procurement discipline, quality control and logistics are the whole job.
